U.S. President Donald Trump has ousted Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday, April 2, 2026, amid reports of his dissatisfaction with her handling of his key priorities. This marks the President’s second major cabinet dismissal in less than a month, following the departure of the former Department of Homeland Security Director Kristi Noem on March 5, 2026. Bondi’s interim replacement, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, will now serve as the acting Attorney General. The President announced his decision to relieve Bondi of her position on Truth Social, highlighting Bondi as “a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend”, while offering limited details concerning the reasoning for her departure. According to the post, Bondi will be transitioning to a “much needed and important new job in the private sector.” However, sources told multiple outlets the dismissal was anything but amicable behind closed doors. The former Attorney General has faced widespread criticism during her tenure, specifically regarding management of the Epstein files and her perceived failure to pursue prosecutions of Trump's political opponents. President Trump has stated he likes Bondi as a person, but feels she has not “executed his vision” within her role as Attorney General. Bondi wrote on X that she would be "moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration”, while adding she will "remain eternally grateful for the trust that President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again.” Bondi's post certainly reflects her strong ties with President Trump, though those ties ultimately proved insufficient to save her position. Her dismissal, coming just weeks after the firing of Noem, signals an emerging pattern within the Trump cabinet – one where even loyal, longtime allies are not immune from the President's frustration when they fail to fully execute his agenda. With two cabinet secretaries ousted in under a month, questions are mounting about stability within the administration and who, if anyone, in Trump's inner circle can consider their position truly secure.
